A Meet Cute Gone Wrong (and Right)
There’s a trope in romance called a “meet cute” which is pretty much what it sounds like. The characters meet for the first time in a cute way. Usually something funny or unusual. It happens in movies and television as diverse as “Singin in the Rain” to “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. In my book, One Night of Danger, Carly and Sam meet in a club. He spills his beer on both of them, they’re good-natured about it and attracted to each other, and the rest is history. Well, actually, the rest is the book, but you get my meaning.
Of course, since this is a romantic suspense story, the meet cute leads to a lot of trouble and danger for both of them. So, in a way, it goes wrong. Very, very wrong. Usually you don’t meet someone new, hit it off and end up running from drug dealers within a few days. Hopefully.
But for all the danger they face, and the fact that neither realized how their chance meeting would lead them down a very dark road, it’s all worth it. Beyond their  physical attraction, they suit each other well. Her sarcasm brings out his silly side. His honesty and openness about his feelings boosts her self-esteem. Getting to know each other in such bizarre circumstances is difficult, but neither one would have it any other way.
That is, until this one thing happens and it all goes to hell. But for more on that you’ll have to read the book.
