Dear Rockstar - An Interview with Author Emme Rollins

Tell us about your latest release:

Dear Rockstar is the story of love vs. obsession. Here’s the cover, blurb and excerpt - they give you a pretty good idea!
Dear Rockstar

The best things in life are crazy…
Sara is obsessed with rock star Tyler Vincent, and as she works to complete her senior year, she’s determined to find a way to meet him—although her best friend, Aimee, keeps telling her to find a different escape from her desperately violent home life.
Complications arise when Dale, the mysterious new transfer student, sets his sights on Sara, and she falls for this rock-star-in-the-making in spite of her better judgment. When Sara wins a contest, she is faced with a choice—travel to Tyler Vincent’s home town to meet him, or stay and support Dale in a Battle-of-the-Bands hosted by MTV.
Their triangulated relationship is pushed to its breaking point, but there is another, deeper secret that Dale’s been keeping that just may break things wide open...
Turn up your collar, feather your hair, and splash on some Polo, because we’re going back to the ‘80’s when MTV played music videos, there was no such thing as American Idol, and becoming a star meant doing nothing short of crazy for that one, big break.

“I dropped out in my senior year. Three years ago.” Dale sipped his Coke too, looking at me over the rim. He had a way of seeing into me that was disconcerting. I felt naked in front of him.

“Let me guess? You wanted to make it in the music business?”

“My parents were having problems.” He sat back in his chair, picking at his food. “My dad left my mom. We moved to Seattle. That’s when I really started getting more serious about music.”

“And your dad was okay with you quitting school?”

He snorted. “No. But he I didn’t give him a say. I moved out.”

“So, how did you end up here?”

“I told you. He got a job at Rutgers.” He seemed far away now, distant. I didn’t like it.

“But you weren’t living with him?”

Dale shrugged. “He asked me to come with him. He said he’d pay for everything, let me live with him, and I could pursue my music as long as I was working on getting my diploma.”

I nodded. “So the Academy is your compromise.”

“Well, I knew about the battle of the bands before we moved.” He flashed me a brief smile. God, that dimple. “MTV did them last year in New York, and I had it on good authority they were going to do them again this year. I figured I’d have time to put a band together and give it a shot.”

“Well now that I’ve seen you, I think you’ve got a pretty good one,” I said honestly. That was an understatement. I couldn’t imagine anyone beating them.

“You think so?”

I nudged him with my knee under the table. “I think you know it.”

“I still like to hear it.” He turned to look at me, his eyes searching. “Especially from you.”

I smiled, reaching over and taking his hand, giving him exactly what he’d asked for. He deserved it. “You’re very good. You’re an amazing singer. You’re an incredible performer. I’ve never seen a crowd go crazy like that for someone they’d never seen before. I mean, celebrity takes time. Exposure. I think you’re one of those people who draws other people in. Like a magnet. You’re going to have people following you around, no matter what you do. For the rest of your life.”

He was actually blushing. “Why do you say that?”

“Because that’s how you make me feel,” I confessed, biting my lip, almost wishing I hadn’t said it.

“Hm.” He made a little noise in his throat, turning my hand over in his, tracing the lines in my palm with his fingertip like he was following a road map. “How do I make you feel?”

“Like I would follow you anywhere,” I whispered.

He lifted my hand and pressed his lips to my palm, closing his eyes briefly, and I noticed how long and dark his lashes were before he looked at me with that intense, blue gaze, telling me more with one look than either of could ever say in words.

“When I saw you in the audience today, I don’t even know how to tell you what it did to me.” He shook his head, twining his fingers with mine.

“Why didn’t you tell me you were performing?” I asked softly.

“Because I didn’t want that to happen.” He gave a short laugh. “I didn’t want to be distracted. I wasn’t supposed to let myself get distracted…”

He met my eyes, the emotion in them so strong I felt it before he even said the words. “Sara, I don’t think you understand what you do to me.”

“What do you mean?” Now it was my turn to ask him.

“I couldn’t think,” he confessed. “Thank God the song was over, because the minute I saw you… I was done for.”

“Oh please.” I smiled, teasing him. “All those screaming girls. I’m surprised they weren’t throwing panties at you.”

“Sometimes they do.” He grinned. “But that never mattered to me.”

I blinked in surprise. “What does matter to you?”

“Now? You.” He squeezed my hand in his, that was all, but the sensation shot up my arm with a jolt that nearly knocked me off my chair.

“Dale, do you realize how crazy that sounds?” I whispered, glancing around like someone might overhear us. “We’ve only known each other for a week.”

“Sometimes the best things in life are crazy.”

I laughed. “I can’t argue with that.”

It was crazy.

It was all crazy.

Me and Tyler Vincent.

Me and Dale Diamond.

But somehow the latter had fully eclipsed the former in my mind—and my heart—at least in the moment.

Great, now on to a few fun questions for you…

Do you believe in love at first sight?
Yes, I do. I have children. :)

Does Prince Charming exist?
Yes. I married him. And yes, he has a brother. But he’s married too!

List five adjectives to describe yourself.
Sarcastic
Introverted
Ambitious
Competitive
Generous

What are your pet peeves or interesting things about you that you dislike?
Chewing. Loud chewing. That sort of open-mouthed, sloppy “I don’t care who’s watching me” sort of chewing that dogs and little kids do? (And some very annoying adults!) Yeah, that!

Favorite meal at favorite restaurant?
Pad thai at Bangkok Café in Ferndale, Michigan.

If you could eliminate one thing from your daily schedule, what would it be and why?
Housework. All of it, in one fell swoop. I want a maid. And a cook. Cooking would be second! But I would never, ever eliminate food or the need to eat! :)

Tea or coffee?
Tea.  Constant Comment, with sugar and milk. I'm actually one of those rare-breed coffee-haters! (I know! *gasp*!)

As a child, what did you wish to become when you grew up?
A writer. And a marine biologist. I wanted to swim with Shamu and the dolphins!

What cartoon character best represents your personal philosophy?
Hobbes – from Calvin and…

What is your favorite dessert?
Anything without coffee in it. Probably the Hot Fudge Ice Cream Cake from Big Boy – a childhood nostalgia favorite!

What is the first thing you notice about the opposite sex?
Their demeanor – is he confident? Shy? Then his eyes.

Three things I think will become obsolete in 10 years:
1.      The publishing industry as we know it
2.      Book stores in general (POD – print on demand – will replace them)
3.      Most of our liberties as American citizens, unfortunately

What's your favorite dish to cook?
Muffins. They’re easy, more filling than cookies, still sweet, you can make a million different flavors, and they’re yummy!

You were bitten by a vampire, now what? (Or werewolf)
YES! Finally!

Do you have nicknames?
Em sometimes, but “Emme” is a family name, it was my grandmother’s, and she was “em” so I’m “emm-ee.”

What is the wallpaper on your computer?
My upcoming book cover: (Buried Secrets, attached)

What music are you listening to?
Right now? Classic rock. But I’ve started secretly listening to New Country and I have such an uber-crush on Luke Bryan! *swoon*

What is your middle name?
I don’t have one!

Pen or pencil?
Pen. I must have pen caps to chew, or all the thinking stops!

What's your favorite TV show of all time and why?
Northern Exposure. You couldn’t ask for a better, more interesting ensemble cast.

What's your next project?
Buried Secrets will be out in August of 2013! (cover attached)

About the Author:
Emme Rollins
Emme Rollins is an up and coming author of New Adult/Mature Young Adult fiction.

She’s been writing since she could hold a crayon and still chews her pen caps to a mangled plastic mess. She did not, however, eat paste as a kid.

She has two degrees, a bachelor’s and a master’s, one of which she’s still paying for, but neither of which she uses out in the “real world,” because when she isn’t writing, she spends her time growing an organic garden to feed her husband and children (and far too many rabbits and deer!) where they live on twenty gorgeous forested acres in rural Michigan.

She loves tending her beehives (bees are wonderful pollinators and Hello!? Honey!) and keeping up with her daily yoga practice and going for long walks in the woods with her boxer, Rodeo, who loves chasing squirrels almost as much as Emme loves writing!

Emme loves hearing from fans, so feel free to use the contact page on her site (www.emmerollins.com) to connect with her.

About the Author:
Siren Allen
Hi, my name is Siren Allen. I’m a writer and lover of all things erotic and romantic. I reside in southern Mississippi where I write steamy romances that are guaranteed to make you blush. When I’m not listening to the characters in my head and jotting down their adventures, I am busy working as a Clinical Laboratory Technician.

I love to travel, preferably with my husband, so he can do all of the driving. I enjoy time with my family, who are just as silly as I am. I have no children…yet, wish me luck! My hobbies are reading, writing and shopping, though I hate trying on clothing. If I wasn’t a writer or a Laboratory Professional, I would probably be a Secret Agent. But that’s the beauty of being a writer; you can create your own world and be whoever you want to be. In my imaginary world, I am Queen and my siblings are my minions.

Author #12: Insatiable Reads Book Tour & Giveaway: Sacrifice by M.G. Morgan...

a Rafflecopter giveaway

SacrificeSacrificeSacrifice

Why I chose to make Sacrifice a New Adult Romance.

New Adult is hugely popular at the minute. You can’t turn around without seeing a new one appear and I for one am thrilled. I know not everyone is, and of course like anything it depends on what you’re interested in. It can’t be everyone’s cup of tea.

For me, there is a reason I made Sacrifice New Adult. I could have aged the characters up but it wouldn’t have been true to who they are. Natasha, really is a young woman on the verge of leaving college. And Sam is a young man who has ended up running in the wrong group. The only way to properly delve into who they are and their motivations was to make them young.

I remember leaving university. I remember graduating. And if I’m honest I hated it. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to graduate, I did. I was happy enough to receive my honours degree and my little piece of paper. But I didn’t want the ceremony. I wanted to have my degree posted out to me. For me, graduating was a very bittersweet moment. You see, I’d gotten lucky enough to have my dad see me go to university, but I wasn’t lucky enough for him to be able to see me graduate. He’d died of cancer my first year of university. As far as I was concerned it wasn’t fair that he wasn’t there to see it happen. And if he couldn’t be there then I didn’t want any part in it.

I remember the hurt, and the tears. I remember begging my mom to let me not have to go through it. I knew how much pain that day was going to bring me. I knew I wouldn’t enjoy any of it, and I’d spend it praying for it to be over.

I was so very selfish. But I look back on it now as something to learn from. It was something I needed to do. Everything at that time of my life is so vivid in my memory. And I can only put that down to the way I experienced emotions then. At that age, everything is felt so fiercely, pain, love, lust, guilt, loss. And in Sacrifice I needed Sam and Natasha to feel the same way.

The lust they feel for each other and the dawning realisation of their love, everything for them is so vivid. Their emotions were so strong for me as the writer, I could practically touch them. And for me, I knew the only time in my life when I felt that vividly was when I was in my late teens/early twenties. It’s that perfect time when your life is finally starting to come together, but you still don’t know how to handle the emotions you’re feeling.

I needed Sam and Natasha to experience that. I knew it would be the perfect backdrop for everything they were going through. As characters they were real to me, and as far as I was concerned New Adult was the perfect way to make them real for you, the reader too.

Sacrifice
The moment Sam looked at me, I knew he saw me. The real me, not the one I pretended to be. He saw beyond my pretense to the girl beneath. The girl who cried herself to sleep at night. The girl who pushed people away, when all she really wanted was for someone to look her in the eye and tell her everything would be alright. That life wasn’t always pain. That living wasn’t always this difficult. That the ones you loved didn’t always leave you behind. In that moment, Sam saw me, and I saw him. And I knew without a doubt that I would love him and he would betray me.

Natasha Masterton, a young college student on the verge of graduation, has the world at her feet. But all is not at it seems. Her mother is dead and she hasn’t seen her father in over three years. The only dealing she has with him is when he deposits her allowance into a bank account every month. Her father’s lack of interest has hardened Natasha to the rest of the world, leaving her cold and more than a little broken.

When Sam Harker crashes into Natasha’s life, asking questions about her father and dragging up the past, Natasha’s interest in piqued. The more time she spends with him, the more she falls for his easy charm and quick smile.

But Sam has secrets of his own - secrets that threaten their blossoming relationship. And when the real reason for Natasha’s fathers disinterest becomes apparent, a sacrifice must be made. Love, honor and duty collide… risking more than just a broken heart.

Sometimes love is worth the ultimate price.
